More amenities at Tamarack Nature Center

A children's garden, apple cider sheds and woodland play streams are part of a model project being developed at Tamarack Nature Center. The Tamarack Nature Center is embarking on a five-year, $8.5 million transformation that could make it a national model for involving children in nature. It is plucking some of the most successful ideas used by nature centers nationally, transplanting them to its White Bear Township center and putting them under the gaze of researchers studying "nature deficits." "There's a great deal of research on the social, emotional and physical benefits of kids interacting with nature and we want to build on that," said Jody Yungers, director of Ramsey County park services and operations. "Our task is big," Yungers said. "We're treading new ground."
