In Osseo, all aboard the 'trolley'
One golf cart has inspired another. Now the city is deciding what makes a golf cart road-ready. ... Now, the City Council is considering an ordinance that would ensure that if a golf cart's on the road, it has a permit and all the basic requirements of a vehicle -- a rear-view mirror, a horn, lights, turn signals and seat belts. In doing so, Osseo is becoming one of a growing number of Minnesota cities to decide if and how it will allow golf carts on city streets. While in Osseo, there's general support for allowing the carts, the city doesn't "want to encourage everyone in the city of Osseo to get a golf cart to ride around town in," said Loren Magsam, city attorney. "It should be limited to very specific situations." Golf carts seem to serve Osseo particularly well because the city's 2,400 residents live in just one square mile. "It works just really slick," said Alan Lindquist, president of the city's business association.
