West St. Paul mayor in gift-giving probe
West St. Paul Mayor John Zanmiller is being investigated on allegations he violated a state law that prohibits city officials from accepting gifts. The Dakota County attorney's office has begun the investigation to determine if Zanmiller received a gift in 2005 of dining room furniture made from deer antlers from Arbon Hairston, the city's former manager who left the job last month. One City Council member is publicly calling for Zanmiller's resignation. City Attorney Kori Land confirmed the county's investigation late Monday night and said the council met twice last month in closed-door sessions to discuss separate criminal investigations relating to Hairston and Zanmiller. County prosecutors and the FBI looked into alleged inappropriate conduct by Hairston but closed those investigations, according to the county attorney's office.
