Preserved oak forest area may become gravel pit, soccer fields

A pristine forest area south of Prior Lake High School that has been set aside for preservation could be excavated for gravel this spring and later turned into soccer fields and a road under a plan that now goes before the city of Savage. A pristine forest area south of Prior Lake High School that has been set aside for preservation could be excavated for gravel this spring and later turned into soccer fields and a road under a plan that now goes before the city of Savage. The mesic oak forest was marked for preservation several years ago after Savage, where the high school is located, determined it to be one of only two remaining forests within the city with the oldest and highest-quality oak trees.
