Plans for lunch?

Reopened restaurant is one hot Mama's

The Rice Street pizza-and-pasta joint was closed for nearly a year undergoing renovation. Its customers haven't forgotten about it. The mostaccioli and pizza are baked in new ovens. ¶ The tableside televisions are color, not black and white. ¶ But the recipes at Mama's Pizza are still the same, and you'll still get an ice cream cone after your meal. The beloved St. Paul landmark reopened Jan. 5 after a burst pipe caused extensive damage and forced it to close. It took 11 months and hundreds of thousands of dollars to gut and renovate the joint, said owner Tony Mudzinski. "Every customer we had came back in three days," he said the Tuesday after it reopened. He had been up till 3 a.m. rolling meatballs because he'd sold so many the day before. "I didn't tell a soul on Saturday [Jan. 5], and it was the busiest we've been in 40 years."
