Forest Lake council approves revised budget, with $389,000 in cuts

Bowing to public pressure, Forest Lake city officials decided Monday not to beef up the city's staff or services in 2008. At a City Council meeting, they approved a $6.83 million budget they say adds only those costs - about $300,000 - related to inflation and health care increases. In turn, they say, taxpayers should see little, if any, rise in their city taxes. To keep the levy generally flat, they said, the city will forego some public safety and maintenance expenses and will postpone plans for a community center.
