Railroad seemingly open to Duluth-Minneapolis line

Minnesota officials pursued their plan for the high-speed line with a trip to Texas to meet the owners of the track. The proposed passenger rail line from Minneapolis to Duluth made a recent stop in Fort Worth, Texas, where a Minnesota contingent met with Burlington Northern Santa Fe officials, who are doing their own study of the line. The proposed line, which could cost more than $400 million, would transport passengers from the Twin Cities to the Twin Ports in two hours, with trains reaching speeds of 110 miles per hour -- speeds the current freight-rail track will not accommodate. Burlington Northern owns the track and will determine the cost and equipment needed to alter it, said Anoka County Commissioner Dan Erhart.
