In Minnesota, government work in short supply
Bucking a national trend, jobs on the public payroll are on the decline in Minnesota. Experts puzzle over why. The number of U.S. unemployed would have been nearly 23 percent higher in March if not for one thing: Governments across the land have been hiring. Not so in Minnesota. In recent months, government jobs have been on the decline, particularly at the local level. And no one is sure why.
