Legislators mull how to rate schools

The star-rating system for schools is gone. Now legislators are grappling with what should take its place... Seagren also said the new requirements to track student performance, report rigorous coursework taken by high-schoolers and collect information on school environment would require more staff time and resources. Mary Cecconi, executive director of Parents United for Public Schools, said the proposed report card would be a good tool for parents. "Is this report card complex?" she said. "Yes, but this is complex stuff. Dumbing something down isn't the right way to do it."
