After Osseo school board vote, time to move on, superintendent says
The board passed a plan to close two elementary schools, combine programs and cut staff, slicing $16.3 million out of next year's budget as a result of failed levies. After a wide-ranging discussion telecast into four overflow rooms at the District 279 headquarters in Maple Grove, the Osseo school board on Tuesday night passed a controversial plan to cut $16.3 million from its budget for next year. Despite an outcry from parents, the board voted 4 to 2 to close Osseo and Edgewood elementary schools; to house the science and math magnet school now at Edgewood at Weaver Lake; and to combine programs from Cedar Island, Fair Oaks and Oakview elementary schools, creating two prekindergarten-through-third-grade programs and one serving fourth through sixth grades.

I had the chills when I heard that they approved the closing of two schools. We were trying to move back to Maple Grove so that we could enjoy their great schools. Now that this occured, we are going to stay where we are at. It is going to be a bummer when they have 30-35 kids per room. The other thing...no 7th and 8th grade sports. To be honest, this can help kids stay out of trouble. It is a shame and I am disappointed.
