Minnesota officials work to seal wells

...By the late 1990s, up to 12,000 wells were being sealed every year in Minnesota, but an estimated 200,000 remain unsealed, Convery said. They are sometimes difficult to find. "They're located all throughout the county," Raber said. "Many people don't even know that they even exist on their property." Officials have worked to make sealing wells easier on homeowners by offering cost-sharing assistance. It usually costs $300 to $600 to seal a residential well, Raber said. "As homeowners and as citizens in general, we have a responsibility to make sure we're doing the right thing," she said.
