Retirees calm, but pinching pennies

Don't worry, be happy. That appears to be the attitude of many Americans heading into retirement, according to a new survey by Thrivent Financial ... In fact, more than half of respondents to the Thrivent survey say they miscalculated their monthly spending in retirement - 29 percent say they are spending more than they thought they would, while 27 percent say they're spending less. And two-thirds of those interviewed who already are retired admit to penny-pinching by traveling less, giving fewer or smaller gifts to family members, shopping with more coupons and eating out less. That degree of cost-cutting suggests Americans are more worried about having enough money in retirement than they are willing to acknowledge.
