Washington County / Tests ID water filters to cut PFCs

Worried about your water? The state Department of Health can help you pick a home filtration system, thanks to tests it conducted to find out which ones remove perfluorochemicals, or PFCs. The chemicals, found in water in parts of Washington County, can be removed by five filtration systems listed by the department. The brand names and model numbers are: CUNO SQC-3, EcoWater ERO-375E-CP, Kinetico Plus Deluxe VX, Pentair RO 3500-EX w/GS and the Culligan RC-EZ-4. Officials decided to test under-the-sink systems, rather than pitchers or filters that attach to the end of a faucet. That's because they wanted test filters capable of handling the needs for a family of four - which typically uses 500 to 750 gallons from the kitchen faucet each year for drinking or cooking.
