Collaboration carries risks, part 4

Star Tribune Fri, 15 Feb 2008 04:43:23 GMT
Emotions overflow at public hearing on docks and boats

Facing pressure to allow multiple docks and bigger boats, the Lake Minnetonka Conservation District is proposing new rules for wetlands and shallow areas. The agency that decides who can put boats where on Lake Minnetonka is floating two proposed ordinances meant to protect the lake's wetland and shallow areas. The effort by the Lake Minnetonka Conservation District (LCMD) is applauded by some residents who opposed the agency's approval last year of 44 boat slips for a Wayzata development along a shallow lagoon. But a long list of cities, developers and property owners -- even those who support the concept -- oppose the ordinances themselves.
