Lakeland / Hubbard alters plan for home on river bluff
With his case against the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources still in court, Rob Hubbard has revised his plans for a house on a bluff above the St. Croix River. ... By keeping the existing house in his plans, Hubbard likely will not need DNR approval, said Molly Shodeen, an area hydrologist for the DNR. "It's one way around it," she said. "Because he was going to tear down the house and reconstruct it, the ordinance requires that he had to build further away from the bluff line. But now that he's leaving that structure and constructing an addition to the existing structure, then that falls into a different section of the rules. Those rules may allow an addition to be constructed on the rear, which is the nonriver-facing side, without a variance."
