Housing market strands some seniors

Those looking to move into facilities such as Oaks of Lake George find themselves in limbo as they wait, and wait, to sell their current homes in the middle of a slump. Carol Skordrud and Geri Leggett wanted senior housing that offered a desired location, underground heated garage, balcony, and washer and dryer. They found their dream home in Oak Grove in northern Anoka County, and at a price they consider a bargain. But the unsettled housing market, which has all but ensured vacancies at the senior complex they want, has also kept them from moving. "We can't move until we sell our town home," said Skordrud, 64. "And it's been on the market for months."
